Gas South Partner Spotlight: Atlanta Ronald McDonald House Charities

From time to time, we like to highlight some of the great charitable partners we work with at Gas South—groups we refer to as our Fuel For Good Allies. Each year, we donate volunteer time and money to these organizations, all of which focus on supporting childhood basic needs, education or health. This week, we’re featuring Atlanta Ronald McDonald House Charities (ARMHC). 

Founded in 1979, ARMHC provides “a home away from home” for families and seriously ill or injured children receiving care in the Atlanta area. Their mission is to remove barriers, strengthen families and promote healing when children need healthcare. Gas South is proud to have partnered with ARMHC for years. 

“Our partnership with Gas South means so much to us,” said Alissa Scherb, director of impact and stewardship at ARMHC. “You’ve supported our mission in so many meaningful ways—not just through donations, but by actively engaging employees and really becoming part of our community. Partnerships like this are incredibly important because they help spread the word. It’s not just about fundraising. It’s about awareness.” 

ARMHC currently runs two Ronald McDonald Houses near hospitals in the Atlanta area, as well as a Care Mobile program that provides primary care, asthma treatments, immunizations, sports physicals and health education for children in underserved areas. And as a national organization, Ronald McDonald House Charities as a whole provides more than 2.7 million overnight stays each year, saving families with sick children about $736 million in lodging and meal expenses. 

“Our biggest challenge right now is keeping up with the incredible growth we’ve seen,” Alissa said. “Over the past couple of years, the demand for our services has far outpaced the capacity of our current Houses. We’re building a brand-new House to help meet that need, and it’s going to be amazing, with expanded services and amenities for our families. But at the same time, we’re still actively fundraising for the new House, supporting our day-to-day work, and planning to make sure we can sustain this growth well into the future.” 

That growth isn’t just reshaping the organization, Alissa said. It’s also opening the door for companies like Gas South, and the community at large, to get more deeply involved. 

“We’d love to have a long and growing partnership with Gas South. With our new House opening, there will be even more exciting ways to get involved and support our families, and we’ll need all the help we can get. We’re always inviting groups to come cook meals or treats, build care kits, or host fun evening activities for the families staying with us. There’s so much opportunity to make a real impact, and we’d be thrilled to keep doing that together with Gas South.”
